Although a spa or massage session in a specialized centre is always an efficient alternative to fighting stress, there is nothing like finding that level of harmony without leaving home. Transforming the home into a temple of relaxation and tranquillity is just a matter of design and planning.

Tips for creating special spaces to relax at home

Living in a space that transmits good energy and helps maintain emotional balance significantly improves the quality of life. Being able to relax at home is not so complicated; just take into account some details:

  • Make the most of the natural light in the rooms to improve serotonin levels. This neurotransmitter, known as the happiness hormone, is activated by sunlight. Serotonin promotes calmness and concentration, improves mood and helps you rest better.
  • Use colours that inspire tranquillity. The harmony of the rooms is also in the energy that these transmit. Each color has a different effect. The idea is to resort to those that generate a feeling of spaciousness, such as pastel shades and colours associated with the elements of nature (greens, yellows and light blues).
  • Set the mood with music. Relaxation is also a matter of hearing and the sounds of a room help to better channel that sense of calm. Instrumental versions of familiar tunes, nature sounds or chill-out music are a good way to start and end the day at home.
  • Integrate comfort accessories. Comfort is an essential part of creating relaxing spaces at home. Elements such as blankets, cushions, pouffes or rocking chairs, and organic fabrics such as silk, wool or linen will help to create a cozy space.

A place for every other activity

Another important aspect to ensure relaxation at home is allocating a specific place for a certain type of activity, such as a reading corner or a place for meditation. This differentiation of spaces allows for mental associations that also have a positive impact on mood. Some ideas for the design of these places of tranquillity at home can be:

  • Allocate a room for artistic creation, designing a small workshop for crafts, painting or handicrafts.
  • Enable a room with comfortable armchairs and lights suitable for reading or all the necessary means to listen to quality music
  • Design a space for meditation and mindfulness, decorated with plants and natural elements that transmit good vibrations.
