Not only in summer: Kitesurfing all year round on the Costa del Sol

Although it is common to associate water sports with summer, the Costa del Sol has a different rhythm. Activities such as kitesurfing are available throughout the year, significantly increasing the leisure and sports offered in the area. 

Kitesurfing schools always open 

While it is true that during the summer months, the activity is more frenetic, most of the kitesurfing schools on the Costa del Sol operate beyond the high season. In fact, the autumn and spring months are the most recommended to start practising this sport in a much more relaxed way. 

Those who are already fluent with the handling of the board and the sail also know how to take advantage of the climatic advantages offered by the Costa del Sol. The wind changes and the thermal breeze provide a different experience during the winter months, being the most favourable to perfect the technique with winds from the southwest and west. 

Best kitesurfing spots on the Costa del Sol 

The coastal strip from Malaga to Cadiz is famous for the sea and wind conditions it offers to practice kitesurfing. Although there are practically schools and companies dedicated to these activities in any of the best-known beaches, there are two places especially popular among lovers of this sport. 

Rio Real in Marbella is mainly oriented to athletes with some experience. A small and rocky beach where the wind always blows, allowing the realization of all kinds of extreme pirouettes. 

Without lowering the intensity of the wind and in a much safer environment is the beach of Guadalmansa, in Estepona. Except for some concentrations of rocks near the shore, it is a reasonably accessible alternative where many kitesurfing schools develop their initiation courses.
