Guide to planning an integral reform in your home
Planning is the key to success in any home renovation. Organizing the schedule and areas of intervention will not only save time and hassle but can also help reduce the budget allocated to the work.
Organize the home renovation in 6 steps
Home renovations are always challenging. However, there are some tricks to optimize the time and resources used. Considering that the project of integral reform of a house lasts for a minimum of 4-6 months, good planning is key to reducing the inconveniences this can cause.
- Step 1: The Project
It is the road map for the whole renovation. Drafting a document establishing all the actions to be carried out, the materials used, and the estimated budget will be a reference when making progress, assessing possible changes, or recalculating costs.
- Step 2: Demolition work
Integral remodels usually involve the demolition of preexisting elements. At this point, it is necessary to consider not only how the demolition will be carried out but also the proper management of the waste generated (rubble and other debris).
- Step 3: Plumbing, air conditioning and electricity
The new uses of the rooms must include constructing the plumbing or wiring of a house. Integral home renovations are expected to change the layout of fixtures in places such as bathrooms and kitchens. The placement of sockets and water outlets must be adapted to these modifications.
- Step 4: Flooring, partition walls and painting
The installation of panels and partitions follows the renovation of the water and lighting systems and precedes the installation of the floors. Once the new walls and plastering are in place, the last step is to paint all the rooms in the house.
- Step 5: Doors, windows and other fixed elements
Built-in closets, sinks, bathtubs... At this point of the reform, with the new distribution already completed, we proceed to place the fixed elements of the house, among which are also the doors and windows.
- Step 6: Cleaning and finishing
The removal of waste and the cleaning of garbage is usually done simultaneously with the finishing touches. The company responsible for the integral reform usually hires a container to collect the remains of the work while performing the finishing touches, such as placing mouldings on the ceilings, baseboards on the floor, or frames in the enclosures.
